Whitby Seals Amateur Swimming Club was founded in 1960 as an open Water swimming club, based at Whitby's outdoor pool.
Club events at the time included swims in Lake Windermere, Lake Bala, the River Tay and a Sandsend to Whitby Coastal swim.
The club became a member of the Amateur Swimming Association within the first year and in 1975 moved to the warmer climate of the new indoor pool.
Throughout the year the club organises a series of social, fund raising and competitive events which include an annual gala and presentation evening, a beach BBQ and an end of year splash session.
